Application Guidelines
(2006)

  1. Requests in the areas of Art, Education and Social Services are considered;
  2. Only to organizations that serve people who reside in the city of Minneapolis and, to a lesser extent, the western metropolitan suburbs;
  3. General operating and special project requests form the majority of our grantmaking; a limited number of capital requests are also considered;
  4. Only organizations with annual operating budgets of under $2 million and with at least one (1) paid employee are considered;
  5. Two grantmaking meetings are held annually. Education and Arts proposals are reviewed in May; Social Services and Capital requests are reviewed in November;
  6. The Foundation does NOT:
    1. Make multi-year commitments or fund individuals;
    2. Support endowment drives, conferences, seminars, tours or fundraising events;
    3. Make grants in the east metro area, greater Minnesota or outside the state of Minnesota.
  7. Applicants should submit only one proposal annually; the narrative portion of which should be no more than ten (10) pages. All applications must include the following attachments:
    1. Cover letter summarizing the scope of the project, the amount of the request, and the name, address and telephone number of the agency's primary contact person;
    2. Overview of the organization, including its purpose, services to the community, size and make-up of its constituency/audience and staff;
    3. List of the current board of directors, including affiliations;
    4. Budget and timeline for the project, including projected and secured funding sources;
    5. Operating budget for the organization's current fiscal year, including projected expenses and projected income sources;
    6. List of foundation and corporate contributors for the current fiscal year to date and for the last complete fiscal year, including specific dollar amounts for each contributor for each year.
    7. Audit or financial statement from the organization's most recent complete fiscal year;
    8. Copy of the IRS Exemption letter under Section 501(c)(3).
